A Noise Within recently celebrated its 30th year of groundbreaking work. In planning for its next chapter, the company is exploring opportunities for creative expression in a possible expansion of its vital, inclusive, and accessible arts platform.

Rooted in a diverse local community, A Noise Within provides a thought-provoking window on the human experience, honoring classic works of literature and dramaturgy, providing a new lens on both. The company’s current home in Edward Durrell Stone’s Stuart Building demonstrates that same sensitivity and celebration, the environment forming a backdrop for a relationship with the City of Pasadena and its rich history.

Our proposal builds on this, with spaces that afford the creative and theater-going community a new experience of the historic site and panorama beyond, culminating in additional performance and support space that connects to the community by revealing the theatrical world within. The proposed expansion includes an emblematic, intimate, flexible performance space to encourage innovation and work of contrasting scope and voice; dedicated education space that supports safe, inclusive, creative, and collaborative learning; and a dynamic campus with elemental space that invites and beckons all to come, to stay, and to imagine.
